Persian has been the language of courts, poets, and scholars and lingua franca of the Eastern part of the Islamic world from the ninth century (C.E.) onward. It is the official language of Iran and it is spoken and understood in various areas of Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, and Tajikistan today.
For first-year students interested in biology and/or medicine:
BIOL C2908 – a 1-credit seminar where each week a biology-related professor discusses his or her research. This is a great way to become familiar with the types of research going on at Columbia University and to find a lab to do research in. Requires attendance and submission of ½ - 1 page summary of each research lecture.

Writers House, a Special Interest Community, has an opening for a female Columbia student to join a sunny 242 sq. foot double with hardwood floors in Harmony Hall (full year, 2012-13). We're looking for someone passionate about writing to share in weekly workshops, dinners with authors, and other literary events throughout the year.
We also anticipate an available spot for a male or female student for the Spring 2013 semester.
