Interested in Serving Your Country as a Navy or Marine Corps Officer?

New York City's only Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) Unit is now accepting applications from freshman students who possess a strong desire to serve as officers in the United States Navy or United States Marine Corps. Applicants are currently being screened to join the NROTC unit for the Fall 2015 semester. Upon successful completion of an orientation program, students will be designated as Midshipmen, and begin working towards the goal of commissioning in the Navy or Marine Corps upon graduation.

When I was a freshman, I tried to be hyper-productive. I would scurry from task to task, always checking my e-mail, organizing something, making a call, running an errand, etc. I thought that “staying busy” meant hard work, which would inevitably mean success. I realized though that it really led to mindless productivity— a constant need to do something and a tendency to waste time on menial tasks.

Summer Sessions: Registration Is Open

Try something new or get ahead in your academic plan by taking a summer class or two! Registration for Summer Session 1 (May 26-July 2) runs until May 26. You can register for Summer Session 2 (July 6-August 14) until July 6.

DEADLINES: SEAS Drop Date and others for CC/SEAS (3/26)

This is a week of deadlines:  The CC Pass/D/Fail deadline, the CC R-credit deadline, the CC Withdrawal (W) deadline, the SEAS Pass/Fail deadline, and the SEAS drop deadline are all this Thursday, March 26.

Please contact or make an appointment with your advising dean if you have any questions about the deadlines.

It is not necessary to register for the exam. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the exam begins.

Each of these cash prizes is open to First-Years, Sophomores, Juniors. Each prize may be shared among deserving recipients in all three academic years.

Global Core Requirement: Change to the Petition Process

The faculty Committee on the Global Core has determined that the list of approved Global Core courses is now expansive enough to accommodate all students.  Therefore, beginning in summer 2015, the Committee on the Global Core will only accept student petitions for course substitutions from transfer students or from students studying abroad in a Columbia-approved program.  Transfer students must petition during their first term of enrollment at Columbia.  Study abroad students must petition no later than the semester following their semester abroad.  All other students must fulfill the Globa

Columbia-Boğaziçi University Joint Summer Program in Istanbul (3/20)

Columbia University and Boğaziçi University are offering an exciting a joint summer program for undergraduate and graduate students which provides a unique opportunity to learn about the history, urban development, and historic monuments of the city of Byzantion/Constantinople/Istanbul.  In situ exploration of Byzantine and Ottoman monuments is complemented by readings and discussions providing context and background to the monuments being visited.  Participants are encouraged to explore and understand Istanbul’s modern topography as an exciting palimpsest of empires, cultures, and religion

Columbia College International Summer Study Fund

The Office of Global Programs and Fellowships is pleased to announce the Columbia College International Summer Study Fund. The Columbia College International Summer Study Fund was established to provide opportunities for Columbia College students to study abroad during the summer. Each award, intended to defray the travel, housing, tuition and overall costs associated with summer study abroad, will help fund students participation in a CU summer study program of their choice.

Biology and Chemistry Research Opportunity for CC Sophomores - Apps Due (3/23)

Columbia College sophomores preparing to declare a major in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, chemical physics, biophysics or neuroscience and behavior are encouraged to apply for a Beckman Scholars Program Award. Beckman Scholars will receive up to $21,000 over the course of two summers and one academic year to support their research endeavors, opportunities to present their research at a variety of symposia, and faculty mentorship to support their professional and intellectual development at scientists.

**Special Concentration in Business Management, which was originally March 2 at 5:00 p.m., has been extended until Tuesday, March 17 at 5:00 p.m.
