On May 2nd and May 6th, we invite you to come hear about the exciting projects your peers have undertaken this semester! Next month, students in the Capstone Workshop in Sustainable Development (SDEV W3280) will present the findings from their spring projects to their clients and the Columbia community. Projects range from an analysis of the impacts of Hurricanes Sandy and Irene on local communities to the design of sustainable strategies to reduce the use of natural resources and waste production in the military.

Congratulations to all the students and groups recognized at the Kings Crown Leadership Awards! Some of you fostered important dialogue, demonstrated sound judgment, and responsible citizenship. Some of you bridged diverse groups on and off campus. Some of you enhanced our lives through music, art, and dance and some of you created sustainable change that will continue to benefit us as you move on to your next adventures. All of you have built skills and developed interests that are transferrable to a variety of internships and jobs.

The Office of Global Programs will hold a Marshall Scholarship Information Session on Monday, April 15, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., in 202 Hamilton Hall (Core Curriculum Conference Room). Seniors, with respect to hiring cycles, we found in our 2012 graduating student survey that more than one third of CC, SEAS and GS respondents accepted job offers between March and May so if you haven’t found a job yet, don't panic! Hiring doesn't all happen in the fall semester.

Are you interested in spending summer learning more about advocacy, policy and development at one of the nation's foremost defenders of civil liberties and civil rights?

Creative Writing Registration Procedures - Fall 2013

Intermediate, Advanced, and Senior level workshops require an application and professor approval before a student is permitted to register.  The deadline for submitting the application and any corresponding writing samples is 4:00 pm on Tuesday, August 27th to the Undergraduate Creative Writing office in 617 Kent.

Students can expect to receive an e-mail regarding their application status (approved, wait-listed, not accepted) before the first class meeting.  If accepted into a workshop, students must attend the first session or risk losing a place on the roster.

George William Curtis Prize in Oration (5/8)

The annual Columbia College speech competition for the George William Curtis Prize in Oration will be held this year on Wednesday, May 8, 2012 at 1:00 pm in 303 Hamilton Hall.

Open to Columbia College students, the contest offers cash prizes to the winner in each of the two categories, informative (4-6 minutes) and persuasive (5-7 minutes).

Registration starts at 12 Noon on Friday, 26 April.


Marshall Scholarships Pre-Application Season is Open

Marshall Scholarships ordinarily provide for two years of post-baccalaureate study at any participating university in the United Kingdom, with the possibility of a third year for students continuing for a doctorate. In special circumstances, students may apply for a one-year scholarship only.  There are few restrictions as to field of study, but applicants must be academically prepared to undertake their proposed course.

There are three main criteria for selection:

Columbia Engineering and the Center for Career Education are pleased to announce the Columbia Engineering Internship Fund for summer 2013. The Columbia Engineering Internship Fund (CEIF) supports undergraduate students who have secured unpaid summer internships in engineering fields.

Math Prize Exam (4/4)

On Thursday, April 4, the Math Prize Exam will be administered 8pm-11pm in 209 Havemeyer.

It is not necessary to register for the exam. Please arrive at least

15 minutes before the exam begins at 8pm.

Discounted Business and Finance Publications

Columbia Business School PE/VC Club has negotiated and arranged access to a limited number of deeply-discounted business and finance publications, relevant to those of you going into investment banking, M&A/private equity, or VC/start-ups. The regular digital subscription rates for them are in excess of $1,100-$1,650 (except FT, which is about $450), but they are all available to you for around $100.
